Went out for a birthday lunch at the Ninety-Nine for a project peep.  So fun to see people!

For all of you who adore mixed species pals, here’s a beautiful series of 14 photos.  There are some of my relationships that feel like this most days!

So 20th Century

January 4, 2015 Sunday

I slept late… relishing my last morning without an alarm clock.  It was rainy but warm 50s!
I tried to get motivated to do more around here but… eh.  I went to chat and there was a marvelous woman there!  We solved the problems of the universe.  Heh.
I watched “Downton Abbey” on the TV!  It’s the only show that will make me turn on that box.  Heh.  It was a glorious start to Season 5.  I hate waiting a week to see another one! Seems so 20th Century!
It’s tough to hold off the “going back to work blues” after 12 days, especially because I didn’t get a real vacation due to being sick, and I have to face the chaos of office renovations.  Ah well…

Beef stew

January 3, 2015 Saturday

I got things done at home today – laundry, writing thank you notes, going through the Christmas cards to follow up or put away, going through a box of stuff from Mom’s.

I desperately wanted to get out, go to dinner, but it starting snowing about 5 pm and was supposed to
make a nasty switch through sleet to rain, so I opted to stay in.  It seemed mean to make someone deliver dinner, so I cooked.  Believe it or not!  I made beef stew over egg noodles.  I started with a big can of Dinty Moore, then added canned corn, mushrooms and garlic, with some frozen onions, and covered it in shake cheese.  Yum.  The perfect comfort food for a snowy evening.
I went to chat and helped a fella write a first message to a nice AM lady.  Fingers crossed for him!
My old flame #2 from high school pinged me.  He pops in now and then when he is having a bad day.  He’s had bronchitis for a week, while driving back and forth from the midwest to upstate NY to visit family.  He’s another guy whose wife locked him out years ago, right after their youngest child was conceived, so he sleeps on the couch “because he snores” she says.  I will admit to coaching him on how to hit on the nice lady.  Heh.  (Bad Sassy) They got to second base right before Christmas!  Yay!

Thanksgiving thoughts

November 27, 2014 THANKSGIVING

7:35am
Happy Thanksgiving to you! I’m away from family and friends for the first time ever on this holiday, far away in the land of in-laws, so I miss you and appreciate you more than ever! Hope the food is delicious and the company convivial!

1:22pm
Finally a day I don’t have to drive!  I had breakfast for lunch @Denny’s
Country fried steak and eggs with bacon
 Red velvet pancake pups!

There’s a wonderful fellow by the name of Anu Garg who shares a word a day with the world.  I get it via email but it also appears as a web page.  There are often fun weekly themes, like this week’s “words that have all five vowels in order!”

http://wordsmith.org/words/adventious.html

Over the years, I’ve noticed that while I enjoy reading about the words, many days the best part is an extra that Anu tosses in at the bottom.  They’re often tied to the date or slyly comment on an issue of interest.  I read it.  And then I read it again.  And then I think about it and how it perfectly sums up an aspect of my strange and wonderful life.  And then… I know I have to share it.  Here is today’s entry:

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center. -Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., writer (11 Nov 1922-2007)
