99 Drams of Whiskey

Saturday sounds

Food was great last night. Had the eggplant appetizer, lemon soup, greek salad, moussaka and chicken souvlaki. The doughnuts were as advertised. Great meal! A little grapa to settle the stomach.

October 23 at 7:52am
Good morning! I hope your Saturday is off to a great start! It is absolutely clear here this morning, and COLD! A brisk 41 degrees… I caved in and turned on the heat last night.
October 23 at 8:13am
So glad to hear your Greek dinner was tasty! Hooray! I love hearing about good restaurants… how did it compare to Athena Pallas?
October 23 at 8:18am
Fun time out with co-workers. 7 of us!  We laughed a lot- “blond jokes.”

Why is it harder to make a blond snowman? Because you have to hollow out the head!

See photo on my profile – amazing murals. Food tasty but tiny “small plates” – shared deviled eggs, grilled jumbo shrimp, risotto dumplings, veggie grape leaves, and a yummy crispy flatbread pizza with figs, Serrano ham, mascarpone, baby arugula, goat cheese, balsamic drizzle! Service awful…and they hurried us… rare that I see that! To cap it off, my assistant figured out a way for us to charge it to the office. Heh.
October 23 at 10:08am
I am full of pep! Bunch of chores done and planning more. Going to TOSS things this morning. Old TV. Old VCR. Old kitchen stuff to the church rummage sale. Thanks for getting me started on de-cluttering! It feels fabulous!

At my sister’s being Aunt Sassy this afternoon while she goes to a wedding.

Found a book you might like – “99 Drams of Whiskey” by Kate Hopkins. Sub-title: “The Accidental Hedonist’s Quest for the Perfect Shot and the History of Drink.” The jacket says it “is part travelogue, part distillery guide, and part history book. It is deeply personal, and told in Kate Hopkins’ humorous, engaging style. Through Kate’s eyes, I found myself looking at whiskey anew.” It’s there for Kindle. Kate is an ex-stand up comedian who blogs about food now.
October 23 at 4:02pm
Blogged about Punta Arenas. I write about new places I hear about, using the “Country of the day” tag. Makes me go learn more about it and share. Did you know that 150,000 people live there now? Not just a fishing village anymore…
October 24 at 12:04am
Thinking of you. Smiling. Quiet here. Full moon is gorgeous. Do you see it? What it would be like to be on my balcony with you? In a blanket and nothing more… in December… hmm. Rich fantasy territory there. I’ll be in my bunk. 😉 Good night, sweet man.

Good morning! Happy Friday! It’s cold here today – only 47 degrees right now. But clear and beautiful. I’m noticing how some of the trees have turned colors and are already losing their leaves, with the one next to them still green. Ah, the vagaries of nature!
Phil October 22 at 11:44am
Cool here too! Feels great! Got a wedding this weekend, more house cleaning too. No football, bye week :(. Getting ready to head out.

October 22 at 11:47am
Call me while you’re driving? Please?
My co-workers are going out for a drink after work today and invited me along to Casablanca, a Moroccan bar, for tapas.
Casablanca is Harvard Square’s legendary ‘neighborhood joint’ on Brattle Street, a restaurant and bar with creative Mediterranean cuisine, great cocktails and a mildly exotic atmosphere
October 22 at 12:07pm
In the “freaky coincidence” category, I got email from a former co-worker this morning. He lives in Pentagon City and was telling me about this great Greek restaurant where he had dinner last night. You can guess where that was…

Ooh! They have a FB page. And a huge menu. Looks like all the right stuff – the taramosalata caviar dip. I love the avegolemono chicken soup. and they have loukoumades – little donuts – very rare and special! I’ve only seen those at the church festivals. Wow.
October 22 at 12:26pm
Maybe you can ask if they have galactobureko in the back. 🙂
Phil October 22 at 12:28pm
Cool! Never been there. I’ll let u know how it was!

Soooo good to talk to you!  I love it when you tell me about cool places you’ve been.  I looked up Punta Arenas – It’s in Chile. Google maps has lots of photos of the casino and various places around town. Wicked cool. Thanks for “taking me” there. So great to hear your voice. And your stories. Thanks for giving me a new association for German Shepherds! Sorry if I kept you from the football news for too long. But it made my day! Heading out to the bar… smiling. Hope the Greek food makes for a great eve

Resolutions

[a private post from my public blog]
Resolutions
On my way home from D.C. on October 8, I felt like it was a new life, a new year for me.  I was inspired by conversations with Philip to go in new directions and catch up on things I’d been putting off.  So I made three resolutions:
1) Pay more attention to my health – Specifically, make appointments for
         a. Eyelid surgery to get rid of those ugly little blips
         b. Mammogram
         c. New orthopedic shoes
         d. Colonoscopy
         e. Do something about my weight.
The military makes Philip keep up-to-date on all the medical stuff, and he said, “You gotta do it, girl!”
2) Be more social on my own – intentionally invite people out for meals and accept invitations
3) Focus on my husband, tell him what I want both in the bedroom and around the house
Later on, listening to Philip talk about getting ready to move and de-cluttering, I have taken that one on as well.
4) De-clutter!
I’ve already had three meals out with friends, had several great talks with my husband, tossed a bunch of stuff and scheduled appointments for the first two health items!
I hope to make progress on all fronts very soon!

Good morning! Hope your day is going well. What’s up? It’s a gray day here… and cold. But I am feeling great! No work to do, headed out to lunch with one of my assistants.
October 21 at 12:36pm
Something stuck with me from a recent chat… you worried about disappointing me. And me worrying I’d disappointed you. And neither of us saying anything. Let me be clear, so you don’t worry. So you smile when you think of this girl. 🙂
I wrote a 600 line email about all the ways you make me happy. But in deference to your busy schedule, here’s one:
“I HAD A GREAT TIME!”
Being with you is easy. Natural. Comfortable. FUN! Maybe the best 39 hours of my life. When we rode around singing 50s tunes, tried new food, had deep conversations, or leaning on the coffee table with your mouth on me, or in bed with my mouth on you. Or any other moment.
You are a gorgeous, caring, passionate man. I trusted you with my life for two days, and you made me feel special and sexy and smart.
If there is anything that is worrying you, ask. If my feelings change, I’ll tell you. Promise to do the same. Hope that makes sense!
October 21 at 4:35pm
Busy day? Hope you’re having a good one.
Had a fun lunch! I usually eat at my desk, and never go far, but my assistant talked me into going to Kendall Square (on the subway) to eat at Cosi with a bunch of her friends. Great sandwich – shrimp remoulade on flatbread!
October 21 at 8:38pm
We had a great sushi dinner tonight. Went to Toraya up in Arlington. Just a little storefront – 6 tables and sushi bar. Do you like sushi? What do you usually order? I eat cooked stuff. Tonight we shared Edamame, Soft Shell Crab & Veggie Tempura, then SUSHI! Nigiri – Tamago, Unagi, Kanikama and a Shrimp tempura maki roll with spicy mayo! Yum. Feel so bouncy after all that protein!
Phil October 21 at 11:16pm
I do like sushi. I like octopus, squid, and tuna. I like sashimi, can do without the rice. Try to go about once a week.

October 21 at 11:32pm
Wow! Sashimi, huh? That’s hard core raw… awesome! I’ve never met anyone who ate the octopus and squid, much less likes it. Wow. You are so intrepid!
Phil October 21 at 11:34pm
Intrepid? Too big a word. What the heck does that mean?
October 21 at 11:37pm
Aw, come on. Go to Google, type define: intrepid
Audacious, courageous, fearless, adventurous, bold, brave, daring!
Phil October 21 at 11:40pm
It’s too late for me. Bout 40 degrees. Buried in the covers. Half asleep. Guess intrepid is good

October 21 at 11:42pm
Ok. I hear ya. You love to torture me, talking about being under the covers, in bed… dammit. If I was there you’d be warmer and more awake!
October 21 at 11:48pm
I suppose you should sleep… I’ll stop using big words or telling you what I wish I could do with you right now… sweet dreams, sweet man.

Roller Coaster swings up

[from my personal blog]
Been riding the roller coaster with my guy. The weekend sucked, as I didn’t hear from Philip at all on Friday, when I thought he’d call me while he was driving. And I had offered to go down there again and he said he’d check his calendar and then didn’t ever mention it.
I was driving myself crazy imagining that our time together had not been good for him and that he was trying to back away etc. I wrote three different emails trying to ask him where his head was. But could not send them. And hubby was being all busy and cranky. I was actually crying over it all. I never cry! Stupid emo crap. I spent most of Saturday cleaning the kitchen from top to bottom, and then I tackled my desk. Doing something to channel the sexual frustration and keep from just lying in bed crying.
Sunday I texted Philip to say “Go Team!” before the football game and he texted right back. We snarked back and forth about football.
But then Philip got back to D.C. Monday morning and chatted at me all day in FB messages. He explained that he was overwhelmed trying to close out his old job and start work on the new one, and clean up his house to put on the rental market, and be with his kids before he moves away.
When I was in a trough over the weekend, I whined to one of my online friends, who told me to stop emailing Philip for a day. Let him miss me a little. Sucks when you have to pull tricks like that. I had not meant to, but it happened by chance. It turned out to be perfect advice. I went to bed early Monday night when I had messaged him twice without an answer, and then woke up late Tuesday, and work was oddly busy, and then I went to my parents, so by 10 pm last night it had been 24 hours since I wrote him or posted anything to FB.  And bless him, Philip pinged me on live chat! He hadn’t done that in almost a month!
We chatted about the Yankees and NCIS, and he said he was tired and needed to sleep. I said good night. But he didn’t log off. So I said “You’d better go before I say something sexy and make a fool of myself.” He said, “No such thing. :)” so I mentioned a sexy memory of our time together that has been haunting me, and he said “I hope I wasn’t a disappointment” and I realized that he was having the same fears I was, that I hadn’t said anything because he wasn’t saying anything… what idiots we are. So I admitted to him I was worried too and he said, “I enjoyed it all” and mentioned a magic moment for him, and we talked for another 20 minutes! I thanked him for the reassurance. He talked about our dinner in December when he’s up here for a conference. He had been focusing on the restaurant in the past two weeks, to the point where I was worried that the sex had been so bad he didn’t want to do it again, but last night he started talking about after dinner, or maybe before dinner and I was flying again.
I feel like an idiot that my emotions are so tied to his attentions, but they are. I am trying to get some distance, be happy when he can contact him and not fret when he doesn’t. I have to get there, as his time is getting more tight all the time. We’ll see how that goes.
And then this morning, after rebuffing me hard over the weekend, hubby crawled into bed at 8 am and said he was cold. So I offered to warm him up and started rubbing on him and suddenly he was talking about his fantasies about watching Philip doing things to me, and moving my hand to touch him and we carried on for quite awhile! I managed to segue into his fingers inside me and it worked. Wow. Big, big progress!  Miracles do happen!  It will be so much better for me if he will touch me again!
Been trying to write to Philip all day… suddenly don’t know what to say. How can I run out of things to say? Ah, well. Something will come to me.
Lessons for me to remember:
  • Good things come to those who wait
  • Tell him how you feel
  • Keep talking, little snippets
  • Stop talking sometimes. Let him miss you.

What’s up with you today? Driving north? More work on the house? Hope it’s productive, whatever it is.

Back in DC. Got a lot to get done. Good weekend. Did that place say Margaritas on it? Looked cool.

October 18 at 12:26pm
Hope you’re making great progress at work. Are you a fan of Mexican food? It did say Margarita’s! Great dinner -10 people. Lots of drink choices. Food was good for a chain. Good guacamole! I had the “Famous Taster” sampler – little chicken burrito, beef taco and cheese enchilada, rice and beans, to get an idea of their different things. All that for $10.99. http://www.margs.com/
Phil October 18 at 12:27pm
Yeah I love Mexican food!

Nodded off about 10 pm… had Thai food from the new place next door. Not fabulous food, but cheap and good. Had that coconut chicken soup. Smiled, thinking of a man in a football jersey shirt tasting it for the first time.
I wish I could help you at home. Pack boxes or make a renter appear like magic… Can you get others to help? I know you’ve helped your neighbors and friends – reach out now? Offer a beer in exchange and share the load.
Maybe I can help in other ways? Listen, tell you a joke, talk about lobster or football. Just be here, in the dark, sending good vibes. Praying. Low-key… but powerful.

Good morning! I hope your day is off to a fabulous start! It’s beautiful here. Sunny and cold… only 46 now and in the 50’s today. Quiet morning in the parking lot. Bright orange trees sparkle in the sunlight. Ah, I love October!
October 16 at 2:16pm
Great to see your smiling face! And your son!
I had a huge spike of energy today – cleaned the kitchen top to bottom! Washed all the kitchen towels. Then tackled my desk. Never seen so many credit card offers in one place… ripped and recycled!
Watched the memorial service for the UMass bandleader on the computer… great, upbeat celebration, lots of fun stories.

Once again reminded how short life is, that it’s important to live it! Hugs!

Football book

Here’s an article about a football book you might like:
In conjunction with senior NFL Films producers Greg Cosell and David Plaut, Jaws has presented, as he calls it, “The Evolution of the NFL in Seven Sundays’’ in a new book, “The Games That Changed The Game.’’
Does anyone in television look like he’s having more fun than Ron Jaworski? The man looooves football, and he loves sharing his knowledge with the public. When Jaws is breaking down tape, the man is in another dimension.
October 17 at 9:00pm
Yes football! Woot!
